Presidents' Message
First, we had to cancel our November 15th meeting because of a scheduling conflict with the annual NJ League of Municipalities meeting in Atlantic City. We had hoped to address state and local planning and development issues and several potential speakers were attending that meeting.
The League will be holding our in-person holiday gathering on Wednesday December 13th, location to be determined. If you have any suggestions for a local restaurant or wish to volunteer your home for a catered dinner, please let us know.
We will be collecting supplies for a small neighborhood nonprofit located in Newark called Essentially Yours From the Heart. We met the director at a program at NJIT and they are doing critical work in the Newark community. Please bring some of the following items:
Diapers
Wipes
Toiletries for men and women
Stay tuned for information about upcoming programs including on climate change, and menstrual equity
Have a very happy Thanksgiving holiday and remember to Vote!

Voter Service
On October 6th, we registered voters and provided voter information at NJIT’s Non-profit Expo . There was quite a bit of interest, and we registered a significant number of voters there and met leaders from other community organizations.
During the month of October, The NJ League of Women Voters held a postcard campaign to lobby for same-day voter registration Same-day voter registration will allow voters to register at polling places during early voting and on election days. Registrants must provide identification and residency information and can cast a provisional ballot while their information is verified prior to their ballot being counted. Our League collected approximately 150 postcards in support of this important issue. We hope this effort moves our Senate and Assembly to bring this to a floor vote, an action that the League has been supporting.
The following are the dates to remember related to voting:
November 6, 2023: Vote-By-Mail Application Deadline (in-person). Applications are due by 3 pm on November 6 at the County Clerk's office.
November 7, 2023: 2023 New Jersey General Election Day. Polls will be open from 6 am - 8 pm.
Reparations
At the League of Women Voters of New Jersey state biennial convention, members voted to conduct a study of reparations for New Jersey residents who are descendants of slaves. Amy Ipp has agreed to represent the Livingston League on this important state Study Committee. Livingston was one of five Leagues to suggest forming this committee. If you are interested in participating, contact Amy.
